Susan Wilkinson : some photos taken during the coronavirus lockdown

Susan is another of our members making photographic use of the lockdown to take some interesting pictures of some minerals she has collected.

These are taken using a 70-300mm lens with the camera on a tripod. They are taken at night - first with the light on to get the focus. Then switching to manual focus, turning the light off and starting the camera on the 10sec timer and using a UV light up close. The fluorite with the big flat specimen fluoresces under low energy UV. The calcite fluoresces red under high energy UV.

More photos of Susan's mineral collection can be seen in a book she has published on Blurb.
